Threatened By A Weapon

A weapon and a car are synonymous, right?

My husband and I were taking a walk around the deserted campus last night. It was still light outside, and we were headed back to our place. We were already crossing a small, hardly used street when this car approached a stop sign. Apparently he was under the influence of something or his windows were so tinted he couldn't see out of them clearly (I know that's not how it works but we couldn't see inside at all) because he kept driving. Chaz and I almost got hit by this car whose driver doesn't know or care about the law or how to read apparently. Coincidentally, Chaz was standing on the side I always stand on (closest to the car). Otherwise I don't know if I could have reacted the same way. He had to jump out of the way in order for the car not to hit him (taken out his legs from underneath him) and at the same time saying, "HEY, NOW!" At this point, I would say my heart was in my stomach, but I don't even think it was inside my body at all. I'd say more like on the ground under the wheel of the car. Chaz was so livid and just held his hands up in the air looking at the car driving away. The driver rolled down his window looking back at us saying, "Get out of my way, *****!" I was absolutely petrified and felt very threatened. I pretty much had to hold Chaz back with my words, and I almost grabbed his hand because he was getting way out in front of me. I could just feel and hear his adrenaline in his body and voice. He was still upset, but I told him that we should just go home and make sure the guy didn't come around the block again to watch and follow us to see where we lived.

We just can't imagine what that guy would have done if that was a little kid who couldn't get out of the way in time or even my sister-in-law who is expecting twins. Would he have the same reaction? Did he have that reaction with us because he almost hit us (which it would have been his fault) so he felt like he had to place blame? Only God knows...

I'm so tired of careless drivers and close calls because one of these days it's not going to be just a close call.
