Mission: Impossible
So today in my physiology lecture instead of lecturing, my professor talked about a misperception people have for our younger generation: the mentality, "You can do anything. All you have to do is try." I never really put a lot of thought into this at all. He said so many people believe this to be the case that they teach young children and adults into thinking, "No matter what, you can do anything." He told us that we all have something that is impossible for us to achieve. An example he used involved him playing the piano for 5 years. After those 5 years, his brother started taking lessons from the same teacher, and he became better than him in just a couple of months. For the most part, anything related to music and singing was completely out of the question for him to achieve no matter how hard he tired. He also stated that his first major he tried to get through was something related to engineering. When it came time for his calculus class where everything started to become 3D, he just couldn't handle it. He studied constantly, and he still couldn't get it. We have the potential to do everything, but we might not have what it takes to achieve such success. It makes me wonder what is it that I can't possibly achieve no matter how much I try...
