A Deer in OUR Headlights

Since I just blogged about being very lucky and having great reflexes, it sparked another "almost accident" story. Chaz, my brother, sister-in-law, sister, brother-in-law, and I were all headed into town from our parents' house in St. James. Before you get into town there are some curves that you have to watch out on, especially at night. We took three different vehicles, so obviously each couple rode in each separate car. Chaz still had his car then, so we took it instead of mine. So guess who drove. That's right...I did. Chaz and I were the last ones out of the driveway, so everyone else got to town fine without "almost" dying. We come up on the last curve and out jumps a deer in the middle of the road. Once again, I slam on my brakes and come about a couple of feet from the deer. He stands there for a couple of seconds, looks at us, and then goes across to the other side of the road like nothing happened. Wow, I wish I could do that, but like before our hearts leapt into our stomachs the rest of the night. Chaz responded, "You almost hit a deer with my car. Don't do that to me again. I'm glad you were driving though because I would have hit it." My reply, "Chaz I just saved your car! It's not like I wanted the deer to jump out in front of me. You should be thankful." Since nothing happened to us, I just laugh at the story and thank God for letting us get by without an extra large hood ornament.
