Only in St. James would it be common to hit a cow! Not a deer but a COW. Chaz and I were on our way to St. James Sunday night from Springfield. We were passing through Waynesville when we received a phone call from my Mom. I was driving as usual so Chaz answered. I could only hear half of the conversation because I couldn't hear my Mom. All I heard was Chaz's reaction, "She hit a COW?!" I tried not to panic, but I preceded to ask a million questions while he was still on the phone. "Who got in an accident? She hit a cow? Is she alright? What's going on?! AHH!!" Finally, Chaz got off the phone and told me my sister, Jessica hit a cow in her little Ford Focus. It was around 9 PM, and she was headed to a friend's house out on V Hwy. She had her brights on, but the cow was black. She thought she saw something so she slammed on her brakes and luckily didn't swerve. She doesn't really remember what happened or exactly how the cow hit the car because it happened so quickly. By the way the car looks, we are assuming the car clipped the legs of the cow throwing it up onto her hood and windshield. Luckily, the cow's head hit on the passenger side, Jessica had her seat belt on, and the airbags didn't deploy (the bumper would have had to hit the cow). Otherwise, she would have been injured more than just shaken up. They couldn't find the cow for awhile, but finally the owners/parents of the owner finally found her. According to the highway patrolman, she isn't the first person to hit a cow, and she was lucky to have the owners actually claim the cow. He said most farmers would deny the ownership of the cow to get out of paying for damages. Thankfully, they were really nice people and were glad Jessica wasn't hurt or killed.
